Cycling climate test: top place for the city of Bocholt
Once again this year, the city of Bocholt made it to 2nd place (grade: 3.1) out of 113 cities in the class of over 50,000 inhabitants in the nationwide bicycle climate test conducted by the Allgemeiner Deutscher Fahrrad-Club (ADFC).
"We are proud to be on the podium again this year," says Mayor Thomas Kerkhoff. Considering the large number of participants, this is an "excellent achievement". Nevertheless, the city does not want to rest on its laurels: the bicycle climate test is a good opportunity to "also hear critical voices and take up suggestions for improvement in planning", says Kerkhoff.
The participants of the survey gave particularly good ratings for "the range of services for old and young" and for the accessibility of the city centre, among other things.
Negative evaluations were given in the areas of bicycle theft prevention, taking bicycles on public transport and bicycle rental. According to the city of Bocholt, there is a lot going on in these areas.
We are proud to be on the podium again this year.
Mayor Thomas Kerkhoff
New bike stations
For example, the bike station at the railway station will offer a secure place to park your bike in the future. Booking will be possible via an app, according to the city of Bocholt. Similar facilities will also be available at the Bocholt University of Applied Sciences and at various locations in the city centre. The city of Bocholt will publish more information on this shortly.
Bicycle parking will also become more convenient in Bocholt in the future: the row bicycle racks that have been installed in many places so far will gradually be replaced by lean-to bike racks. Wherever possible, the width and condition of the cycle paths will be adapted to today's requirements, for example on the Veloroute / Fahrradachse Aasee, where the cycle path will be extended to a width of three metres and asphalted.
"We are constantly working to further improve and strengthen cycling and walking in Bocholt - and to make it as traffic-safe as possible," says Daniel Zöhler, the city's building officer. He thanks the people of Bocholt who took part in the ADFC survey on behalf of their city.
The basis for the school grade evaluation is a survey by the ADFC in which 425 people participated for Bocholt.
