Climate protection in Bocholt

Climate change mitigation and adaptation concept 3.0

Nothing less than our future is at stake. If we want to fulfil the Paris Climate Agreement and contribute to meeting the global 1.5 degree target, then it means "Nothing like it, immediately and together!

And that's what Bocholt wants! The expansion of renewables, increasing energy efficiency through technology and adapting to climate impacts that are already occurring today and will continue to worsen are of fundamental importance to us all.

The city of Bocholt has set out on this path. Various departments of the city of Bocholt and external experts have worked together to develop suitable approaches and implementations for Bocholt. The resulting new climate protection and climate impact adaptation concept 3.0 was adopted by the city council in February 2025.

In order for existing opportunities for Bocholt to be utilised, ambitious and socially accepted goals are required. Openness to results, open-mindedness and the participation of many are therefore the be-all and end-all for success. And that all members of Bocholt society work together to achieve the goals that have been set.

The changing climate

Climate change is already clearly recognisable in Germany and NRW: heat build-up in summer and rainier winters with increased heavy rainfall are just some of the phenomena that have an impact on the quality of life, including in Bocholt. It is not enough to wait and see. As an NRW climate community, we want to face up to these challenges - and take precautionary action.

About the climate strips
