Bocholt remains a "pedestrian- and bicycle-friendly city".
Membership in state-wide working group extended after examination
The city of Bocholt remains a member of the Working Group of Pedestrian and Bicycle Friendly Cities, Municipalities and Districts in North Rhine-Westphalia (AGFS NRW). Every seven years, the members of the network have to reapply.
The city of Bocholt is one of the municipalities and districts that successfully applied for renewal of their membership in the Working Group of Pedestrian and Bicycle Friendly Cities, Municipalities and Districts in North Rhine-Westphalia (AGFS NRW) in the current year.
Every seven years, members of this municipal network must reapply and prove that they are actively and continuously working to create sustainable, liveable and homely cities and districts. Only municipalities that continue to meet the AGFS criteria remain part of the working group and continue to benefit from the advantages of membership. These include better access to funding opportunities and participation in inter-municipal projects.
"The examination of the renewal application has led to a positive result and no special notes have been formulated that should be observed until the next renewal application in seven years' time," according to the positive assessment of Bocholt's renewal application by a commission of experts. The corresponding renewal certificate was awarded at the general meeting in Cologne.
Viktor Haase, State Secretary in the Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Transport (MUNV) honoured the municipalities and districts with a speech. In particular, he emphasised the pioneering role of the western Münsterland region in promoting cycling and walking. In addition to the city of Bocholt, the city of Rhede and the district of Borken, among others, also received their renewal certificates.
