Adjustments for Bocholt's cycle lanes
New markings for Biemenhorster Weg and Hemdener Weg // Willingsweide becomes a cycle route
The city of Bocholt is continuing to improve its cycle road network in order to make cycling safer and more comfortable. The current focus is on Biemenhorster Weg, Hemdener Weg and Willingsweide. Targeted adjustments are intended to increase road safety and improve visibility.
At Biemenhorster Weg, the junction with the road Auf dem Takenkamp is being reorganised. In future, Biemenhorster Weg will have right of way here in order to improve the flow of traffic for cyclists and increase their safety. The new regulation will be clearly marked with appropriate traffic signs and markings to ensure clear and safe traffic guidance.
Hemdener Weg will also be adapted, focussing on the Friedenstraße area. Here, stationary traffic will be reorganised to improve visibility. The aim is to increase safety for schoolchildren in particular on their way to school. In addition, the first section of Friedenstrasse will be designated as a cycle lane. This is intended to further strengthen the protection of cyclists on this route.
Willingsweide will be designated as a new cycle lane. In order to promote cycling, parking will remain permitted on the northern parking lane and the south-eastern perpendicular parking spaces, while the standard rules for cycle streets will otherwise apply. This gives cyclists an additional, safe route that they can use with priority. Prior to the road markings, the asphalt surface will be repaired, which is planned for mid-November. Depending on the weather, the road marking work can be completed either immediately afterwards or in spring 2025.
The road marking work on the existing roads is planned from the week after the funfair, i.e. from 22 October 2024, weather permitting. There may be short-term closures and restrictions during the work. The city of Bocholt asks all residents and road users for their understanding and to use alternative routes during this time.
With these measures, the city of Bocholt aims to further promote cycling and make a contribution to environmentally friendly and safe mobility. They are part of the city's mobility concept to promote environmentally friendly mobility.
