Baking campaign brings generations and cultures together
Senior citizens and young people bake together // "Generations, cultures and diversity"
The kitchen at Bocholter Energie- und Wasserversorgung (BEW) has now become particularly Christmassy: the first of two baking events took place as part of the "Generations, Cultures and Diversity" project organised by the Federal Working Group for Senior Citizens.
The initiative, realised by the Leben im Alter association and the city of Bocholt's senior citizens' office, brought together 20 participants of different ages and cultural backgrounds.
"It's always fun when you get to know each other, when you start exchanging ideas. It's just a great thing", says Sarah Bußmann from the city of Bocholt's senior citizens' office.
After a brief discussion of the recipes, they got straight down to work: small groups were busy stirring, kneading and cutting out. At the end of the two baking days, around 150 packed Christmas bags of home-baked biscuits were produced. "The biscuits are then given away to the residents of the Diepenbrock retirement home", says Bußmann.
About the initiative
The baking campaign is part of the "Generations, Cultures and Diversity" project organised by the Federal Association of Senior Citizens' Offices. This project promotes encounters between young and old as well as people from different cultures in order to strengthen the dialogue between the generations and appreciate the value of a diverse society.
Through creative and innovative activities such as theatre, cooking events or festivals, the participants develop local projects together that reflect their heartfelt concerns. The aim is to show young people how they can better participate in society and to enable everyone involved to play an active role in civil society.
