Third aid transport from Bocholt to Verkhniodniprovsk

14 German and Ukrainian helpers from the "Helping Hands" group and the Bocholt Volunteer Agency loaded a large lorry with humanitarian aid supplies. In the coming week, the lorry will bring the third aid delivery this year from Bocholt to the Ukrainian city of Verkhniodniprovsk. Bocholt and Verkhniodniprovsk have been linked by a solidarity partnership since October.

The relief supplies come from private donors and various local companies. The Service Agency for Communities in One World supports the aid transport financially by covering the transport costs.

Relief supplies for hospitals

Leo Engenhorst and the "Helping Hands" group have been collecting care beds, bed linen and numerous medical products for Ukraine over the past few months. The helpers also loaded surgical masks and protective suits, bandages, toys and much more onto the lorry.

Help from Malteser Bocholt

Due to the heavy weight of the care beds, Malteser Hilfsdienst Bocholt provided a small lorry with a loading ramp so that the beds could be driven up and loaded onto the lorry. More than 10 tonnes of relief supplies were collected, which are intended in particular for the two hospitals and the reception of the many internally displaced persons.

Critical situation due to power cuts

The 20 kW generator will be of particular help to the people of Verkhniodniprovsk. The mayor of the Ukrainian town, Gennadij Lebid, sent a call for help to Mayor Thomas Kerkhoff last week, saying that the people were in a critical situation due to the Russian bombardments. This affects the infrastructure and has resulted in numerous power cuts. Gennadij Lebid would like to see a total of four powerful generators to keep public life going, especially in the two hospitals.
