Freedom meal "80 years of peace and freedom" in Dinxperlo and Suderwick
Event organised by Dutch-German team / Made possible by the Interreg Germany-Nederland programme
This year's Freedom Meal will take place on Monday, 5 May 2025. Its motto is "80 years of peace and freedom".
As in previous years, the event is supported by many institutions and associations. For example, guests attending the Freedom Meal can use the bus from Bocholt to Dinxperlo free of charge if they provide appropriate proof.
For this year's Freedom Meal, the organising team has come up with a new event format to pay special tribute to the motto "80 years of peace and freedom". The event starts on the Prins-Claus-Plein in Dinxperlo and ends at the Michaelstreff at the Michaelskirche in Suderwick, Kerkpatt 20. On the way there, participants will encounter numerous activities on the theme of peace and freedom.
Route
Free registration of participants will take place on Prins-Claus Plein on 5 May 2025 between 5.30 and 6 pm. There, all guests will receive a wristband that will allow them to take part in the various stations along the route to the Michaelstreff in Suderwick. There will be music and dancing along the route. Stories and poems will also be performed. One of the performance venues will be the tavern directly on the former German-Dutch border. Snacks will be available for those who register.
Freedom soup
Every year, a well-known chef is commissioned to create the recipe for the Freedom Soup. This time it is food journalist and presenter Jet van Nieuwkerk, who looked for her inspiration close to home. Together with her 90-year-old grandmother Jeanne van Munster, she developed a minestrone soup. The freedom soup will be served at the St Michaelstreff.
Programme
In addition to the numerous programme items along the route between the Prins-Claus-Plein and the Michaelstreff, guests can also expect music at the end point. Together with Irene van der Aart, the Vision choir will sing the Freedom Song, composed especially for the cross-border project "80 Years of Peace and Freedom", followed by other works. The St Michael's Church Choir and Koor Con Amore will also perform as a German-Dutch choir.
Registration
This year, the Freedom Meal will take place without pre-registration. The entire event is free of charge. The organisation team has announced that a donation box will be set up at the soup counter.
