Where is the EU heading?

Expert from Berlin gives lecture // KAB St. Josef Rhede and KAB Borken district association cooperate with EUROPE DIRECT Bocholt // Appeal for participation in the European elections in June

Professor Dr Uli Brückner from Berlin gave a lecture on the topic of Europe and the challenges facing the EU in times of war in Ukraine, climate change, migration and nation states. The lecture was organised by KAB St. Josef Rhede and KAB Bezirksverband Borken and was supported by EUROPE DIRECT Bocholt.

In the year of the European elections, the European Union is facing enormous challenges: War in Ukraine, climate change, refugees and migration, economic crises, nation states and more. Where is the EU heading? And above all: can Europe manage it?

Brückner spoke about these topics and the EU in general in the packed event hall of the Vereinshaus in Rhede. Annette Seier from the KönzgenHaus educational centre in Haltern am See moderated the event.

During the event, it became clear why all citizens should take part in the European elections on 9 June 2024. Brückner emphasised that the EU, as a "compromise machine", has stood for peace and freedom for decades. Sonja Wießmeier from EUROPE DIRECT Bocholt called on those present to promote voting in the European elections.
