My Europe
"My Europe" is an interactive digital event series that lets its guests discover Europe.
How does it work? It's simple: young people from different countries talk to the participants about Europe and their personal topics of interest. The topics are as diverse as the speakers themselves and can range from current political and social events to culture and science to one's own commitment to more tolerance or solidarity. In addition to the topic of the heart, all participants can also vote live on other topics and ask questions on the evening itself.
The speaker
On 27 September, Sabine Kerssens will take the audience on a virtual journey to the Netherlands. She will present her research on deep tech start-ups and her country.
Sabine Kerssens, a Dutch systems engineer, conducts research in collaboration with the Charlemagne Prize Aachen. She has lived in the Netherlands, Italy and Switzerland and participated in conferences with over 160 nationalities. For the past 3.5 years, she has been studying how the Dutch economy is developing, with a particular focus on start-ups. For the past year, she has been working with the Charlemagne Prize Network to understand effective European commercialisation of academic innovation.
The subject at heart
The Netherlands has a relatively high number of start-ups, but in international comparison they fail more often to grow their businesses. World-changing technologies and ideas fail because of a lack of capital, a lack of talent to drive the technology, insufficient demand or all of these factors. One aspect remains underexposed: Dutch culture.
Where does the Dutch start-up ecosystem stand? Which are the bottlenecks and which are the thriving sectors? How can we learn from each other and improve entrepreneurship in Europe?
In this episode we answer these questions with data and show you the big picture. The event will be held in English.
The event partners
The event series is free of charge and is organised by a large network: AEGEE Aachen, Institut Français Aachen, JEF NRW, Charlemagne Prize Foundation, Charlemagne Prize Academy and the EUROPE DIRECT Centres from Aachen, East Belgium, Gütersloh District, Dortmund, Duisburg, Essen and Bocholt.
The moderator is Katharina Ross, freelance journalist.
