Background
Farmers are protesting against the bureaucratic hurdles imposed on them. The City Agricultural Association of Bocholt took this as an opportunity to organise an event together with the Europa-Union and EUROPE DIRECT Bocholt. Further co-operation partners are the Europa-Union NRW and the city of Bocholt. Volksbank Bocholt is supporting the event.
The European Commission has proposed to revise some provisions of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) in order to simplify the agricultural sector. "The EU is responding to hundreds of requests from agricultural organisations and member states", says Sonja Wießmeier from EUROPE DIRECT Bocholt.
Experts
The following experts from the EU, the federal government and the state of North Rhine-Westphalia will take part in the event:
- Dr Robert Gampfer, Policy Officer at the Representation of the European Commission in Berlin
- Albert Stegemann, agricultural policy spokesman for the CDU/CSU parliamentary group in the Bundestag
- Markus Höner, agricultural policy spokesman for the CDU in the state parliament.
The event is intended as an open discussion round so that everyone can have their say. Refreshments and drinks will be provided.
