Commemoration of the destruction of the Bocholt synagogue
Invitation Commemoration 9 November // subsequent concert in the Christuskirche
85 years ago, on 9 November 1938, the synagogues in many cities of the then German Reich were set on fire and destroyed. In Bocholt, the interior of the synagogue was demolished; afterwards it could no longer be used as a house of prayer. The destruction of the synagogue was the prelude to the systematic persecution and murder of the Jews.
All citizens of Bocholt are invited to take part in a silent commemoration. The pupils of the Mariengymnasium will actively shape the commemoration.
Tuesday, 9 November 2021, 7.30 pm at the memorial for the desecrated synagogue on the forecourt of the Haus des Handwerks, Europaplatz 17.
Following the memorial service, a concert will take place in the Christuskirche as a cooperation event between the city of Bocholt and the Protestant church community. The Berlin singer Esther Lorenz will present her programme "From Toledo to Jerusalem - A musical journey through Judaism" with Hebrew, Sephardic and Yiddish songs together with the guitarist Peter Kuhz.
Admission is free! The organiser is the Department of Culture and Education of the City of Bocholt.
