Forest nature trail at Vossenpand

There is now a forest nature trail at Vossenpand in Mussum. The municipal waste disposal and service company (ESB) has built it there on a former private property. The result is a signposted circular trail where interested visitors can find out about the local flora and fauna and the various habitats.

Excursion to the "green classroom"

In the shade of an old English oak and surrounded by a "Benjes hedge" made of wood cuttings, there is a wooden table waiting for young and old researchers. "We naturally hope that day-care centres and school classes will also discover the forest nature trail as an excursion destination", says Sven van den Berg from the ESB. Tables and benches will also be set up on a neighbouring area next to the nature trail. Cyclists can then take a short break there.

Habitat for plants and animals

20 native tree species have been arranged and signposted around the nature trail. If you go exploring here, you can learn a lot about the local flora and fauna - including aquatic insects and amphibians. This is made possible by a small pond in the centre of the nature trail.

Deadwood as a habitat is a key topic. Visitors to the forest nature trail learn about the special importance of dead wood as a habitat for numerous insect species.

The forest nature trail at Vossenpand can now be used freely for educational purposes and to linger.
