Kunsthaus Bocholt
The Bocholt Kunsthaus (Osterstraße 69) is located opposite the Stadtmuseum, on the site of the eastern city gate that once stood there in the Middle Ages. The villa in neo-Renaissance style, restored by the owner, the foundation of the Stadtsparkasse Bocholt for the promotion of science, culture and environmental protection, and leased to the city of Bocholt on a long-term basis, is the venue for contemporary art exhibitions by both the main organiser, the EUREGIO-Kunstkreis Bocholt E.V., and the city of Bocholt.
With the City Museum opposite, a villa in Art Deco style, a kind of "cultural gateway" is located here at the eastern entrance to Bocholt's pedestrianised city centre.
The Kunsthaus Bocholt hosts exhibitions of fine art, primarily of the present day.
The EUREGIO Art Circle was founded by citizens of Bocholt and in agreement with the city of Bocholt on 25 April 1972. Its intention is to achieve a "stronger revival of the encounter with art" through "extensive participation of citizens in all decision-making processes". "...to institutionalise the self-responsibility of citizens, especially in art exhibitions" is another goal of the newly founded association.
In special cases, the cultural division of the city of Bocholt also organises its own art exhibitions in the Kunsthaus.
The Kunsthaus houses a collection and working place for the Bocholt Archaeological Group in the Verein für Heimatpflege Bocholt E.V. and for an extensive private geological collection on Bocholt's geological history.
