Planting beds in Bocholt

Summer in Bocholt is so colourful!

Bocholt is blooming in many places! The plant beds planted with seed mixtures not only beautify the cityscape, they also make an important contribution to promoting biodiversity.

The colourful seed mixtures are used in parks, at the Aasee and Kubaai lakes, along the Mosse river, at municipal sports facilities, in the industrial area, on the ring road and in various other open spaces.

They are composed of non-invasive summer plants and have been specially selected to fulfil both aesthetic and ecological purposes.

Suitable locations selected

When selecting the locations for the beds, the city of Bocholt attaches great importance to visibility. At the same time, the soil conditions also play a role in the selection: mainly poor soils that require few nutrients are chosen. This not only reduces the amount of labour required, but also helps to keep maintenance costs low.

Before the seed is sown, employees of the waste disposal and service company (ESB) loosen the existing soil and level it. As soon as the weather conditions are right - ideally moist and warm - the seed is sown.

The flowering mixtures used are particularly insect-friendly and include a variety of plant species, including blue woodruff, marigold, sage, poppy, golden varnish, bearded carnations, daisies and sunflowers.
