Free refreshments at Liebfrauenplatz
Bocholter Energie- und Wasserversorgung GmbH (BEW) has officially put the new drinking water fountain on Liebfrauenplatz in Bocholt city centre into operation. In addition to BEW Managing Director Jürgen Elmer and his employees Andreas Hengstermann and Peter Panofen, the event was also attended by Agnes Epping, Chairwoman of the Bocholt Senior Citizens' Advisory Council, and other members who had also campaigned for the installation of a public water dispenser.
The installation is a further measure to improve the quality of life in Bocholt's city centre and, in particular, to refresh visitors to the adjacent new city garden with free drinking water. The BEW public tap is also intended to encourage people to reduce the environmental impact of drinks packaging and motivate them to drink enough, which is not only healthy and important on hot summer days.
As the sponsor of the tap, BEW not only takes care of the installation, but also the operation and maintenance of the system. During the frost period from October to April, the fountain is shut down and put back into operation in the spring and monitored for hygiene.
Peter Panofen from BEW explains: "We opted for a modern and economical stainless steel model with a drainage channel. A sensor button on the back of the stainless steel column ensures that the water only flows at the touch of a button . This helps to save water and also prevents puddles from forming around the site in strong crosswinds. Automatic flushing intervals ensure that visitors receive fresh drinking water immediately."
A similar facility already exists at Benölkenplatz in Bocholt, where children and young people from the neighbouring schools in particular make regular use of it.
