Traffic: Roadworks on the Nordwall

From Thursday, 18 July, the Pollstiege / Dietrichstraße junction will be converted to make it barrier-free // Traffic restrictions are to be expected

From Thursday, 18 July, construction work will begin on the barrier-free conversion of the Nordwall / Pollstiege / Dietrichstraße junction. Traffic disruptions are to be expected on this section of the city ring road in July and August.

In the course of the construction work, it is necessary to close the remaining car parks between Hermannstraße and Dietrichstraße for the entire duration of the construction work. The area will be used as a storage area for the construction site equipment. As a result, Hermannstraße will only be accessible via Herzogstraße during the construction work.

The remodelling will be carried out in several construction phases, starting at Pollstiege. During the construction phase, there will be repeated traffic disruptions. At times, it will be necessary to close lanes or turning lanes for a few days. Pedestrians will be able to cross the ring road safely at all times via traffic lights. Depending on the progress of the work, diversions will be signposted for cyclists.

The work includes converting the pavements and crossing islands as well as equipping the traffic lights with acoustic signalling devices to improve mobility for blind and visually impaired people. Tactile guidance and attention fields as well as lowered crossings will also be installed.

Sewer work in Dietrichstraße

Once the road construction work has been completed, part of the sewer in Dietrichstraße will be replaced.

Reconstruction is subsidised by the state of NRW

The total cost of the construction project is around 220,000 euros. Of this amount, 120,000 euros are for the road reconstruction and 100,000 euros for the sewer work. The road reconstruction is 80 per cent funded by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.

The construction work has been scheduled for the summer holidays, as experience has shown that less traffic can be expected on the roads during this period and the school route from the bus station towards the schools is not used. The city asks road users for their understanding for the restrictions that will occur. The construction work will ultimately help to improve road safety and maintain the sewer network.
