Improved traffic routing at the Bocholt industrial park
Intersection on the L604 opened to traffic
It has been almost exactly one year since work began in the area of the on and off ramp of the L604 (Mussumer Ringstraße) in the industrial park. Now they have been completed and the area is open to traffic again.
Extended turning lanes and junctions, new cycle paths, new traffic lights - a lot has changed in the area of the on and off ramps of the L604 in recent months.
The result is a traffic area that meets the demands of the increased traffic volume of recent years and significantly improves traffic safety in this area. "We have created an efficient traffic infrastructure here, which benefits the employees in the Mussum industrial and commercial park every day", Mayor Thomas Kerkhoff is pleased to say. He thanks the residents for their patience over the past months. "The modernisation is an important step for the further development of the municipal commercial areas," says Kerkhoff.
Overall, care was taken to make the modernisation as compatible as possible for local traffic: For example, some of the work was carried out at weekends in order to minimise restrictions for citizens. In future, the measure should avoid waiting times at the junction of Alfred-Flender-Straße and Mussumer Ringstraßen.
"The redesign of the road is a successful example of the targeted cooperation between Strassen.NRW and the city of Bocholt," says Manfred Ransmann, branch manager of the Münsterland regional branch of Strassen.NRW. "Together, this measure has succeeded in increasing road safety and shaping the traffic situation in a future-oriented way," says Ransmann.
Thanks to the redesign, "the road now meets the requirements of the growing industrial area, while at the same time offering increased safety for pedestrians and cyclists," Ransmann is convinced.
Measure subsidised by the state
The total cost of the extension is about 3.5 million euros. The state of North Rhine-Westphalia will pay about 2.55 million euros, the rest will be covered by the city of Bocholt.
