Construction work on Ostwall completed
Traffic can flow smoothly again // Safety for cycling and walking improved
The extensive construction work on the Ostwall, which took about a year, has been completed. The closure of the Ostwall section has been lifted and traffic can flow freely again.
The trigger for the redesign were new construction measures on both sides along the "Ostwall". This also meant that the traffic situation had to be redesigned in order to ensure traffic safety along this section of the city ring road.
From April 2022 to September 2022, extensive preliminary work on the supply lines was first carried out by BEW.
Afterwards, the above-ground work could begin. Thefootpaths and cycle paths as well as the planting strip on both sides of the "Ostwall", in some areas also in the adjacent streets "Augustastraße" and "Schonenberg", were widened.
At the Ostwall/Augustastraße junction, the traffic lights were renewed and a pedestrian crossing was installed. A pedestrian ford was also created in the Ostwall/Schonenberg/Friedrich-Wilhelm-Straße area.
In the area of the Ostwall/Münsterstraße junction, a new cycle ramp was installed. The road surfaces were renewed and provided with markings.
Nine street trees were planted in the beds. In autumn, the white ash trees provide an attractive street scene with their red colouring.
The construction costs for measures on the road, traffic lights and green strips total around 500,000 euros.
