Boggeter Promenade on the River Aa is being redesigned
Greening work begins this week // Separate footpath and cycle path in future // Necessary sewer work
Preparatory work for the improvement of the footpath and cycle path as well as the design of the open space on the Boggeter Promenade (between LernWerk and Neutorplatz) is due to start this week. The red ash will disappear in this area and the footpath and cycle path will be separated in future. In addition, the necessary sewer for the new neighbourhood on Kreuzstrasse (formerly Van Oepen) will be laid.
Until now, pedestrians and cyclists have shared the road. This will now change: The cycle path will be 4.00 metres wide and the footpath 2.50 metres wide. Areas with planting beds and play equipment will be created between the footpath and cycle path, and new trees will also be planted.
During the construction work, the area of the Boggeter Promenade will be closed to cycle and pedestrian traffic. Pedestrians can use the newly designed footpath connection on the northern side of the Aas as an alternative. Cycle traffic coming from both Neutor and LernWerk will be diverted via Kreuzstraße.
Work begins this week
The preparatory measures will begin this week: As part of the site clearance, some trees will be felled and bushes and shrubs will also be removed. During the planning phase, care was taken to preserve large trees that characterise the cityscape as far as possible. Nonetheless, the city of Bocholt has announced that diseased and dying trees will also be removed as part of the project.
Once the construction site has been cleared, a new sewer will be laid at this location for the new residential and commercial neighbourhood on Kreuzstraße. Work on the footpath and cycle path will then begin in spring 2025. According to the city of Bocholt, the project should be completed by September of next year.
