New artificial turf pitches at SC TuB Mussum open for sporting activities
Completion of the tennis centre will follow in spring 2024
The SC TuB Mussum sports club is delighted: Football can now be played on the two new artificial pitches. The football pitches are now open for sporting activities, according to the sports administration of the city of Bocholt.
To this end, the existing old clay pitch was converted into an artificial turf pitch with LED floodlights. "Only the commissioning of the LED floodlights will take another week and a half, so full operation will only be possible after that," explains Thomas Boekhorst from the municipal sports administration. The former grass area for training, the small pitch, has also been covered with artificial turf and can therefore be played on regardless of the weather.
The expansion of the sports facility also includes the construction of four new tennis courts. They are expected to be completed for the tennis season in spring 2024.
The total construction costs amount to around 1.6 million euros, of which 610,000 euros will come from funding as part of the federal programme "Renovation of municipal facilities in the areas of sport, youth and culture". Construction started at the end of July 2023.
Background: merger of the sports clubs
On 1 October 2021, the two formerly independent clubs TuB Mussum and SC 26 Bocholt merged to form the new association SC TuB Mussum 1926 e.V. The construction work was necessary so that the club could meet the increased requirements at the sports grounds on Alfred-Flender-Straße against the backdrop of growing membership numbers.
