New Year's Eve aid campaign: doughnuts for a good cause
Cross-border campaign for "Open Church Day 2024" in Bocholt-Suderwick (D) and Dinxperlo (NL) // Parishes invite you to attend
All seven churches in the border towns of Bocholt-Suderwick (D) and Dinxperlo (NL) are planning a joint aid campaign at the end of the year as part of the "Open Church Day 2024". They want to help those who are struggling financially and bring hope for the new year.
The typical Dutch oliebollen (doughnuts) are baked and sold for a good cause. The parishes invite you to the service on 31 December at 4 pm in Dinxperlo. Last year's campaign was already well received.
Anyone who would like to buy the biscuits is invited to purchase the Oliebollen for 5 euros on 30 December from 2pm to 4pm and on Tuesday, 31 December from 9am to 11am. One bag contains six biscuits.
Proceeds for families
The proceeds will benefit families in financial need, who will receive a cheque to compensate for the increased cost of living. The parishes are in contact with the people for this purpose. In addition, the popular Oliebollen are given away to citizens over the age of 85 in both towns.
31 December: Village church opens its doors
According to the organisation team, the following schedule is planned for 31 December:
The village church will be open parallel to the sale of the Oliebollen from 9-11 am. Everyone is welcome to an event with music, an exhibition by a painting group, games for children, eating Oliebollen/doughnuts with mulled wine, coffee, etc. If you wish, you can take part in the ecumenical German-Dutch church service at 4pm, in which all seven parishes will be taking part.
The campaign is a sign of the special relationships between the people in the border villages of Suderwick and Dinxperlo and fits in with one of the priorities of the state government of North Rhine-Westphalia this year: Combating loneliness.
