"Generation cooking" in the Fabi

Thursday, 10 November, 2 pm // Senior citizens can take part // Background is project "Generations, Cultures, Diversity"

As part of the "Generations, Cultures, Diversity" project, a "Generation Cooking" event will take place on Thursday, 10 November from 2-6:30 pm at the Family Education Centre in Bocholt (Ostwall 39). Senior citizens, including those with an international family history, are welcome to register and take part.

Pupils from the Berufskolleg am Wasserturm vocational college are committed to promoting diversity and combating extremism as part of the social leadership programme and IHELP. They want to cook together with senior citizens, especially those with an international family history, and engage in dialogue.

"The senior citizens should enjoy and have fun engaging in dialogue with young people and cooking together", emphasises Ricarda Leson from the Jusina association, which is coordinating the project together with the municipal senior citizens' office, the city of Bocholt's integration officer and the association "Leben im Alter e.V." (L-i-A).

Diverse society is valuable

"We want to empower young people so that they learn about opportunities to participate better in society and improve their life situation", says Agnes Wellkamp from L-i-A. The aim is to promote dialogue between the generations. The aim is to promote dialogue between the generations and make it an enriching experience for both sides. "One aim is also to encourage young and old to learn to appreciate diversity as valuable. Solving challenges, regardless of their nature, is easier for everyone with tolerance, openness and a constructive attitude", emphasises Nina Kremer, Head of the City of Bocholt's Senior Citizens' Office.

Utilising the wealth of experience of older people

At the same time, young people should be able to utilise the wealth of experience of older people in order to actively participate in civil society. "We want to make it clear that integration is not one-sided, but a task for all citizens to help shape society", adds Bruno Wansing, Integration Officer for the City of Bocholt.
