Construction work begins for refugee accommodation in Biemenhorst
Work on the construction of refugee accommodation in the Biemenhorst district will begin on Monday, 15 July. The facility for a maximum of 250 people is due to go into operation in November.
Development work will initially take place on the currently undeveloped meadow area in the northern section of the street "Auf dem Takenkamp". Soil is being removed, followed by sewer and road construction work. Once the site has been developed, mobile housing units and functional buildings will be erected in the autumn. A play area for children will also be built on the site. There will be a social service and a security service on site. Commissioning is planned for November 2024.
The use of the refugee accommodation "Auf dem Takenkamp" is limited until the end of 2027. After that, residential building land is to be developed on the site. The decision on the location for interim use as refugee accommodation was made in a referendum in October 2023.
Stopping restrictions due to construction traffic
There will be construction site traffic during the construction phase. In order to be able to carry out the lorry journeys "Auf dem Takenkamp" for the removal of soil and deliveries to the construction site without disruption, temporary stopping bans will be put in place in the streets "Auf dem Takenkamp" and "Sonnenscheinstraße". These will apply on working days between 6 a.m. and 5 p.m., i.e. only during the actual delivery and collection periods. This allows residents to use the car parks outside working hours.
Current pick-up rate
Bocholt has currently taken in around 1,600 refugees, with a legal obligation to take in just over 1,900 people. Further information on the refugee situation in Bocholt and background information on the city's approach can be found at www.bocholt.de/gefluechtete.
