NRW State Programme "Culture and School": Apply now!

The "Culture and School" programme aims to bring pupils together with artists. Funding of up to 4,200 euros is possible, the application deadline is 31 March.

With the state programme "Culture and School", the Ministry of Culture and Science of North Rhine-Westphalia aims to integrate cultural education even more strongly into school life. Pupils are to be introduced to culture and at the same time made curious about this subject.

"We as the district of Borken actively support the programme and are pleased that it underlines the great importance of cultural education", emphasises Elisabeth Büning, Head of the Department of Education, Schools, Culture and Sport in the district of Borken. For this reason, the district administration, together with those responsible for culture from several towns in Westmünsterland, is now drawing attention to the state programme. They hope that as many primary and secondary schools from the Borken district as possible will apply for the programme.

Interested parties can submit their project ideas to the Münster district government at www.kultur.web.nrw.de/onlineantrag#login by 31 March 2025 . Grants of up to 4,200 euros are possible. The respective school authorities or schools must cover 20 per cent of the costs themselves. After the application deadline, a jury consisting of representatives from the Münster district government and the Borken district as well as two independent artists will decide which projects will be awarded a grant.

The projects complement school learning and should therefore not be realised by teachers in regular lessons, but rather outside of lessons in direct contact with artists continuously throughout the school year. In individual cases, the projects can also be offered as block events.

The projects are not thematically defined and address all cultural disciplines from theatre to literature, visual arts, music and dance to film. "Direct experience, artistic activity and cultural education are important for the development of young people", says Ute Isferding, the Borken district coordinator responsible for the funding programme.

"Often the access to cultural programmes for pupils through external artists is completely different. They also take place outside of the grading system and are intended to motivate pupils to try out new ideas and methods in an open-minded way."
