Hohe-Giethorst-Schule will become an all-day secondary school in the next school year
District government grants authorisation // Sustainable strengthening of the school
Hohe-Giethorst-Hauptschule will be converted into a so-called tied all-day school for the coming 2024/25 school year. Approval has now been granted by the Münster district government. Mayor Thomas Kerkhoff reported this at the most recent council meeting. The city of Bocholt had previously submitted a corresponding application based on a council resolution from December 2023.
From the coming school year, Hohe-Giethorst-Hauptschule will therefore be part of a wide range of all-day schools in Bocholt, alongside Georgsgymnasium, Arnold-Janssen-Schule, Israhel-van-Meckenem-Realschule and Städtische Gesamtschule. All schools with all-day programmes are very popular in Bocholt.
The school management and the city of Bocholt as the school authority welcome the positive decision of the district government and are convinced that the tied all-day programme will significantly and sustainably strengthen the framework conditions at Hohe-Giethorst-Schule for pupils and teachers and contribute to an overall increase in the attractiveness of the school.
As part of the state funding programme "Geld oder Stelle", tied all-day schools receive a twenty percent teacher supplement, which can also be capitalised.
The premises required for all-day operation from the start of the 2025/2026 school year - the existing room capacities will be sufficient in the 2024/2025 school year - will be created as planned in the course of the planned new construction of the neighbouring Euregio-Gymnasium or provided in the meantime by mobile room units. In addition, the expected increase in the number of lunchtime meals from the 2025/2026 school year will make it necessary to expand the cafeteria capacity.
