According to the street cleaning statutes, owners of adjacent properties are obliged to keep public streets and squares free of dirt, grass, weeds, leaves, garbage, mud and snow in autumn and winter. In addition, gritting is required in case of icy conditions.
On duty for citizens
The waste disposal and service company of the city of Bocholt (ESB) is responsible for clearing roads and paths within the city limits that are important for traffic and dangerous during snowy and icy conditions - however, many paths are also cleared as part of a voluntary service provided by the city of Bocholt.
The district is responsible for clearing the district roads and cycle paths outside the town, while the state enterprise clears the federal and country roads. The municipal waste disposal company has stored around 400 tons of salt for use on roads that are slippery with snow or ice. If it becomes slippery, 23 people with 21 vehicles are on duty in Bocholt.
