This is where the Easter bonfires in Bocholt burn on Sunday
On Sunday, 31 March, a long-standing tradition will be continued in Bocholt: A total of eight Easter bonfires will be lit in various parts of the city. These events, which are organised by local clubs and parishes, are an integral part of Easter customs in the region.
According to the case law of the Higher Administrative Court of North Rhine-Westphalia, traditional bonfires are characterised by the fact that they are organised "by religious communities, organisations or associations anchored in the local community and are open to everyone as part of public events".
These events not only offer the opportunity to celebrate Easter in a communal atmosphere, but also strengthen the sense of togetherness within the community.
