Pupils distribute thinking and thank-you notes in Biemenhorst
This week, the stop-and-frisk campaign of the city of Bocholt was continued. At the Biemenhorster Birkenallee, pupils from the Biemehorst primary school were allowed to hand out "think slips" and "thank you slips" to motorists.
With a raised HALT sign, police chief inspector Michael Schneider of the traffic accident prevention unit of the Borken district police waves a motorist in a black SUV into the car park at the SV Biemenhorst sports club. The laser measuring device operated by Ludger Thesing from the city of Bocholt has just measured the car's speed: 73 kilometres per hour - only 50 km/h are permitted on this stretch of Birkenallee.
Elis and Lia from class 3a courageously confront the driver of the car - but he is very friendly and apologises for his misbehaviour. Nevertheless, the two schoolgirls hand him a self-made red "reminder note". "He said he didn't even realise he was going so fast," Elis and Lia report as they rejoin their classmates and class teacher Manuela Miko.
Action for over 25 years
The stop-and-frisk campaign has been organised jointly by the city of Bocholt and the district police for more than 25 years. Pupils from Bocholt's primary schools hand out "reminder slips" for wrong and "thank you slips" for correct behaviour in road traffic.
The campaign is supported by the Stadtsparkasse Bocholt, and Julia Bergerfurth presented a cheque for 2,300 euros on behalf of the road safety campaign on Tuesday. "This is a really great thing that we are happy to support," said Bergerfurth. The motto of the stop-and-frisk campaign - as well as the upcoming Road Safety Day - is "Children see things differently".
Road safety day at the weekend
There will be another road safety day next weekend - this time on the market square in front of the historic town hall. The event starts on Saturday at around 2.30 pm.
