From May 2025, only digital passport photos will be accepted at the Citizens' Office.ID cards and passports: digital passport photos from May
More security and convenience when submitting applications
From 1 May 2025, applying for ID cards, passports and residence permits will also be even easier and more secure in Bocholt. In future, passport photos for official documents will only be accepted digitally. This will ensure uniform quality standards, prevent manipulation and speed up the application process.
Citizens can then have their passport photo taken directly at the Citizens' Registration Office, the Foreigners' Registration Office or by a certified photographer. The photo will then be securely transmitted digitally. Photos that have already been printed out will no longer be accepted. The fee for having a photo taken at the authority is 6 euros per document.
"The city of Bocholt recommends that you arrive early for your appointment to have your photo taken in advance and to ensure a smooth application process", explains Jens Wendland from the Bocholt Citizens' Office.
The basis for the switch to digital passport photos is a change in the law.
