Blue-green algae: No all-clear for the Aasee

Even after the most recent sampling at the Bocholt Aasee, the water body cannot be released. This was announced by the city of Bocholt following the results of the latest water samples. According to the results, there is still a high concentration of blue-green algae. Swimming and water sports are therefore prohibited.

Dog owners should also keep their pets away from the water. Unfortunately, the values have continued to deteriorate compared to the previous samples. Both the microcystin and chlorophyll a values are beyond the limit values, according to the city of Bocholt.

Visibility depth also not given

The low visibility depth is also a cause for concern: due to the colouring of the water, this is currently only around 40 centimetres. This can make rescue operations difficult, especially in the bathing bay. The water therefore remains closed as a precautionary measure. The red flag has been hoisted and warning signs around the lake inform passers-by.

A sailing regatta planned for the weekend can therefore also not take place. The swimming season in Lake Aa ends in mid-September. It is currently unclear whether the lake can be reopened. The city continues to have water samples taken regularly and is keeping a close eye on developments.
