Storm warning for Bocholt: From Wednesday night, 16 February 2022 from 10 p.m. until Thursday afternoon, the German Weather Service is reporting gale-force gusts with top speeds of up to 110/120 km/h.

The German Weather Service warns: "Gale-force gusts with speeds between 80 km/h (22m/s, 44kn, Bft 9) and 110 km/h (31m/s, 60kn, Bft 11) from a westerly direction. Gale-force gusts of up to 120 km/h (33m/s, 64kn, Bft 12) are to be expected near showers and in exposed locations. On Thursday night, gusts of between 80 and 100 km/h, initially from the southwest, later from the west. Temporary gusts of up to 120 km/h with the passage of a cold front. Temporary weakening of the wind on Thursday morning, but gusts of between 90 and 110 km/h will become widespread again during the course of the day, with gusts of around 120 km/h from the west near showers." Information on possible dangers

Citizens are asked to be particularly vigilant: Avoid forests and parks; trees can be uprooted and roofs damaged. Please pay particular attention to falling branches, roof tiles or objects. Close windows and doors, secure outdoor objects. It is recommended that you keep your distance from buildings, trees, scaffolding and high-voltage power lines. And if possible, avoid spending time outdoors.

Schools remain closed

Classroom teaching throughout the state and thus also at Bocholt schools is cancelled due to the storm warning on Thursday, schools remain closed(press release from the NRW Ministry of Education).

Appeal to daycare centre parents

Daycare centre children and children in day care should also be looked after at home if possible. Family Minister Stamp says: "Trees are expected to be uprooted and there is talk of severe storms. We do not want to put children at risk and therefore my urgent appeal to all parents to please look after their children in daycare centres or childminders at home tomorrow."
