Mayor congratulates Elisabeth Harhuis on her 100th birthday
Bocholt resident Elisabeth Harhuis has now received personal congratulations from Mayor Thomas Kerkhoff. She celebrated her 100th birthday on Sunday.
"I would like to congratulate you on this proud age on behalf of the city of Bocholt, but also on behalf of the Minister President of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, Mr Wüst, and on behalf of the District Administrator Dr Zwicker - I'm doing the postman for them today'", said Kerkhoff. Family members reported that a letter of congratulations from the Federal President of Germany had also arrived from Berlin.
Elisabeth Harhuis was born in Dingden in 1922 and built a house with her husband in "Ober"-Lankern (Bocholt), right on the border with Hamminkeln. She remained loyal to her place of residence and remained firmly rooted in the Lankern neighbourhood throughout her life, which serenaded her on her birthday. The senior citizen still loves to bake and cook, keeps up to date by reading the newspaper and goes for a walk every day.
