City of Bocholt warns of fraudulent e-mails
Fake e-mails are apparently currently circulating which claim to have been sent on behalf of the city of Bocholt. These emails do not originate from the city administration, but are used for fraudulent purposes.
Even the sender addresses are suspicious, ending in @tiscali.co.uk, for example. The subject line reads "Inquiries about outstanding invoices - City of Bocholt". Fictitious persons, for example a "Michelle Soprani, Head of Accounting, City of Bocholt", are given as the supposed sender.
In the text of the fake emails, recipients are asked to submit invoices that the city allegedly owes by reply email. Reference numbers and the names and email addresses of contact persons are also included in the reply, with the explanation that "some colleagues are on holiday".
The City of Bocholt clarifies: These emails are not authentic. They are attempts at fraud.
The city recommends:
- Do not open
- emails and do not reply to them
- Delete
- emails immediately
- If in doubt, contact the city of Bocholt directly via the official contact channels
