Bocholt mourns former mayor
Bocholt mourns the death of Peter Nebelo. The former mayor of Bocholt (2004-2020) passed away on 21 June after a serious illness at the age of 66.
Before the council meeting, the Bocholt city council observed a minute's silence in memory of the former city leader. Bocholt's acting mayor Thomas Kerkhoff: "We mourn Peter Nebelo and our thoughts are with his family. Mr Nebelo was proud of his town, a 'Herzensbocholter'. He rendered great service to his home town."
Book of condolence planned
In honour of the deceased, the city of Bocholt will lay out a book of condolence in which citizens can leave a personal entry. It will be available from Monday, 26 June, until Saturday in the historic town hall on the Markt, daily from 10-12 am and from 14-16 pm (Saturday: 10-13 am).
Peter Nebelo, a native of Bocholt and a lawyer before becoming mayor, was a true "Bocholt boy", as he himself often said. Proud of his home town. Approachable, modest, level-headed, with an open ear for citizens and employees of the administration.
Forthree terms, from the first election in 2004 to the re-elections in 2009 and 2015, the Social Democrat headed the city until the end of 2020.
