Fibre optic expansion started in Mussum and Biemenhorst
On 19 June 2024, the symbolic ground-breaking ceremony for the fibre optic expansion in the Bocholt districts of Mussum and Biemenhorst took place. Together with the Mayor of Bocholt, Thomas Kerkhoff, the Managing Director of Bocholter Energie- und Wasserversorgung GmbH (BEW), Jürgen Elmer, and the civil engineering company Völker GmbH, the go-ahead was given for this pioneering infrastructure project.
The construction work is expected to take seven months. By then, over 1,300 customers who have booked a fibre optic connection from BEW's "faserfreunde" brand in the two districts should be connected to super-fast Internet. Parallel to the construction work, the civil engineering company has already been carrying out joint house inspections with the future fibre optic customers for several days. In consultation with the homeowners, it will be determined how the fibre optic connection is to be installed in the house.
"Bocholter Energie- und Wasserversorgung would like to thank its customers for the remarkable response in this first expansion cluster. We are very pleased that the civil engineering work is now starting on schedule and that the first Mussum households will soon be connected to the fast fibre optic network", explained Jürgen Elmer, Managing Director of BEW.
While the excavators are already rolling in the south of Bocholt, residents of the next expansion area in Stenern and the surrounding area can still quickly secure a free fibre optic connection. The marketing phase will run here until 5 July 2024 with several information events and attractive booking benefits. Expansion is scheduled to begin here in the fourth quarter of 2024.
BEW asks for your understanding for the upcoming construction work and the associated traffic restrictions. "We will minimise the disruption as much as possible", assured Jürgen Elmer.
