Company insolvency delays the opening of refugee accommodation in the Biemenhorst district

Re-tendering necessary // New start date is March 2025

The refugee accommodation in Bocholt-Biemenhorst - in the northern part of the street "Auf dem Takenkamp" - will go into operation from March 2025. The city of Bocholt had to adjust its planning due to a company insolvency. It was originally planned to go into operation this year.

The city of Bocholt has started to temporarily build a refugee facility for up to 250 people on the site after a referendum was held on the matter almost a year ago in October 2023. The use as refugee accommodation is limited until the end of 2027, after which the site will be available as building land. The development and civil engineering work is already being considered with this subsequent use in mind.

The now delayed commissioning of the refugee accommodation has no impact on this timeline, emphasises the city administration.

The reason for the new start date is that the company that had been awarded the contract for the rental and heating supply of the mobile housing units has had to file for insolvency and is therefore no longer able to deliver. The administration then cancelled the contract and immediately put the service out to tender again. The new contract is to be awarded shortly.
