"Jugend musiziert": Bocholters win two first prizes at the regional competition

Alen Bajrovic qualifies for national competition

Four music students from the Bocholt-Isselburg music school's young talents took part in the 61st regional competition "Jugend musiziert" in Heek. The young talents from Bocholt won two first prizes in their categories. Alen Bajrovic will now go on to the state competition in Cologne.

In the categories "clarinet", "duo: piano and string instrument" and "recorder", four pupils from Bocholt performed the pieces they had selected together with their teachers to an expert jury at this year's regional competition in Heek.

After a warm-up period, the actual competition began. All participants were judged separately in age groups. Depending on their age, they were expected to perform a programme of their own choice of between six and 20 minutes with music from different eras.

The pupils achieved the following results:

  • "Clarinet", age group IV
Alen Bajrovic (piano accompaniment Karl-Heinz Höper), 23 points, 1st prize with forwarding
  • "Duo: piano and a string instrument", age group Ib
Carl Levin Müller (violoncello) and Wangzi Hao (piano), 22 points, 1st prize

  • "Recorder", age group IV
Matilda Varone (piano accompaniment Christina Taczyk), 19 points, 2nd prize

"The "Jugend musiziert" competition is always an exciting event for the pupils, teachers and parents", reports Bocholt's music school director Claudia Borgers. "She noticed a great atmosphere on site, and the fantastic results are something to be proud of. This is a great success, everyone can be very proud of their achievements"

Regardless of the competition result, the intensive preparation promotes the musical development of each individual participant. "The joy with which the musicians presented their pieces shows that the competition is about much more than points and prizes", emphasised music school director Borgers.

In addition to the dedicated pupils, the teachers of all participants also contributed to this result with their numerous additional rehearsals and personal commitment. This year, the pupils were prepared by teachers Christiane Schröder, Theres Kommescher, Britta Nolte Kaiser, Christina Taczyk and Karl Heinz Höper. But the guidance and support of the parents is also enormously important.

Alen Bajrovic will go on to the state competition in Cologne in March.

About the "Jugend musiziert" competition

In the "Jugend musiziert" competition, the specialist juries made up of music teachers, lecturers and specialist teachers from the respective instrumental areas classify the performances into a points system of 0-25 points, to which corresponding prizes or awards are then assigned.

The funding for this competition, under the patronage of the Federal President and sponsored by the German Music Council, is provided by the districts of Borken and Coesfeld, the towns and municipalities and the savings banks in the region.

Selected participants from the Borken and Wesel districts on the right bank of the Rhine will present their works on 3 March 2024 at 11 a.m. in the historic town hall in Bocholt.
