160 people set an example for peace, tolerance and humanity
Interreligious prayer for peace "Angel der Kulturen" at Benölkenplatz in Bocholt
Around 160 citizens came together on Benölkenplatz early on Friday evening to set an example for peace, tolerance and good coexistence. As part of the interfaith prayer for peace "Angel der Kulturen", the participants renewed the promise they made eight years ago to respect each other regardless of religion or origin and to stand up for peaceful coexistence in Bocholt.
Accompanied by music from Lothar Meinen and with contributions from various religious traditions, the event offered a contemplative atmosphere. Bocholt's First City Councillor Björn Volmering also took part in the prayer for peace and paid tribute to the citizens' commitment.
The interfaith prayer was based on the principles that had already been formulated during the installation of the "Angel of Cultures" floor inlay in 2016.
Following the prayer, the participants gathered in the cafeteria of St. Georg High School, where further discussions and encounters took place over biscuits and hot drinks.
With the renewed promise of peace, the citizens of Bocholt are sending out a signal in favour of respectful and tolerant coexistence - in their city and beyond.
