Sauna on fire in the sauna garden of the BAHIA baths
Bocholt - This morning at 09:44, the automatic fire alarm system at the BAHIA adventure pool was triggered and alerted the Bocholt fire brigade. Already on the way to Hemdener Weg, a larger fire in the outdoor area could be recognised due to the smoke development. The volunteer fire brigade was therefore alerted immediately.
On site, a detached sauna building was fully engulfed in flames. The fire brigade simultaneously deployed three jet pipes with firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and successfully fought the fire. This prevented the fire from spreading to other buildings.
In the meantime, it could not be ruled out that the ventilation system had drawn in hazardous smoke from the fire. The entire BAHIA was therefore evacuated and an assembly point with rescue blankets was set up for visitors in the area of the main entrance. Three employees who were involved in the initial extinguishing measures with portable fire extinguishers had to be treated by the emergency services as a precaution and transported to the nearby St Agnes Hospital. They were slightly injured.
A total of up to 50 fire and rescue service personnel from the city of Bocholt were deployed with up to 14 vehicles.
In addition to the BAHIA staff, special thanks also go to 1. FC Bocholt, who spontaneously made their team bus available to look after the bathers.
The extinguishing work will continue into the afternoon.
