FW Bocholt: Operation in the Mussum industrial park: Unclear substance turns out to be non-critical material

Bocholt - This morning at 4.06 a.m., the Bocholt fire brigade was called to an incident in the Mussum industrial park. The employee of a haulage company reported the escape of an unknown substance, which could presumably be hazardous goods, from a loading bridge.

The Bocholt fire brigade responded immediately and deployed several firefighters, including specialists for the defence against hazardous substances. On site, the situation initially turned out to be potentially dangerous. It was initially assumed to be a flammable and corrosive liquid. In order to assess and secure the situation in the best possible way, additional specialists from the entire Borken district (ABC-Zug Kreis Borken) were alerted for support.
As the operation progressed, however, the hazard was narrowed down further and the substance precisely identified. Fortunately, it was not dangerous goods, but a non-critical substance used for paint processing. Based on this realisation, the additionally alerted forces were quickly called off again. The emergency services of the Bocholt fire brigade then gradually scaled back their measures and returned to the fire station at around 05:30.
