FW Bocholt: Hazardous goods operation in the Schlavenhorst industrial estate
The Bocholt fire brigade was called to a haulage company in Bocholt's Schlavenhorst industrial estate at 08:00 on Monday. On site, an initially unknown liquid was leaking from a lorry loaded with various hazardous goods.
The fire brigade initially cordoned off the area, ensured fire protection and collected the leaking hazardous material with a special binding agent. In the further course of the operation, the lorry was partially unloaded by firefighters wearing special chemical protective clothing until a damaged barrel containing a flammable liquid could be clearly identified as the cause of the hazardous goods leak. This was sealed so that no further hazardous materials could escape into the environment. In addition to the emergency services, the Bocholt fire brigade's drone was used for the investigation. Emergency services from the Rhede fire brigade also supported the Bocholt fire brigade with emergency services trained to wear chemical protection suits. Basic protection was provided by other members of the volunteer fire brigade for the duration of the operation.
The operation was completed after around three hours.
The Bocholt fire brigade and the rescue service were deployed with 12 vehicles and 50 emergency personnel for three hours
