FW Bocholt: Fire in the basement of an apartment block

On 28 March 2020, the Bocholt fire brigade was called to a reported cellar fire in an apartment building on Dortmunder Straße at 09:40. When the first firefighters arrived, all the residents had already left the building unharmed.
The first firefighters immediately entered the affected cellar wearing heavy breathing apparatus with a jet pipe and a thermal imaging camera. At the same time, other firefighters entered the stairwell of the building to check the situation.
A burning socket was found in the communal laundry room. The fire was quickly brought under control and completely extinguished. To be on the safe side, the entire area of the basement was checked with a thermal imaging camera to identify any embers.
To rule out any further danger, the basement area was immediately de-energised. The stairwell and the cellar were then ventilated mechanically with ventilation equipment and smoke was extracted.
After around an hour, the fire brigade was able to hand over the scene to the residents. A total of 20 firefighters with six vehicles from the full-time fire station and the Bocholt volunteer fire brigade were at the scene.
The Bocholt fire brigade would like to point out that electrical cables and sockets must be sufficiently dimensioned for their respective use
