Tree grapple in action 3FW Bocholt: Field fire turns out to be a burning pile of reeds
Bocholt - In the early morning of 6 April 2025, the Bocholt fire brigade was alerted at 00:36 to a reported field fire in the Töppingsesch area. On site, however, it turned out that it was not a classic field fire, but a burning pile of grass clippings, especially reeds, which extended over an area 2.5 metres wide, 15 metres long and 1.5 metres high.
In order to fight the fire effectively, two jet pipes were used immediately. Due to the conditions, it was necessary to pull the source of the fire apart in order to extinguish the flames / embers completely. For this purpose, the Zetros with tree grab was called in and successfully deployed. The tree grapple spread the glowing pile of reeds over an area of grass opposite, which further facilitated the extinguishing work. This was pulled apart further with a manure rake and extinguished with a jet pipe.
After around two hours, the fire was completely extinguished. No danger to neighbouring areas was identified.
The Bocholt fire brigade was on site with 5 vehicles and a total of 11 firefighters. The police were also on site to secure the scene.
The operation was successfully completed thanks to the quick and professional work of all those involved.
