Pilot project: Trainees learn how to handle horses
This week there was a rather unusual course for the trainees of the basic training course of the Fire and Rescue Service Academy: the trainees learned how to handle horses.
Triggered by a fire incident last year and the experience gained, the idea arose to teach the trainees of the basic training course basic skills in dealing with horses.
The trainees of the Fire and Rescue Academy had the opportunity to do this this week. After a short theory lesson on site by a horse trainer, who imparted basic knowledge about behaviour and handling horses, it was time for practice.
The focus was on the question "how do I get a horse out of a burning stable or a dangerous area?" For this purpose, the trainees practised putting on the halter and handling the lead rope. The opening mechanisms for horse stalls were also explained and which paths in stables should be used for this purpose.
