Bocholt - For the first time, an aid transport is making its way from Bocholt to the Ukraine. Medical supplies and warm clothing are destined for the people in the city of Verkhniodniprovsk and are due to arrive there on Christmas Day. Bocholt signed a solidarity partnership with this Ukrainian city in October.

When Mayor Thomas Kerkhoff and the Mayor of Verkhniodniprovsk, Hennadiy Lebed, met for the first time in Leipzig in mid-November, they both agreed that medical supplies could be delivered on the first aid transport.

Thanks to numerous donations from the local population, companies, care homes and hospitals from Bocholt and the surrounding area, a considerable amount of relief supplies has been collected.

14 care beds with mattresses, 20 rollators, 40 boxes of fitted sheets for care beds from Setex, numerous boxes of bed pads, pads and nappies as well as two oxygen machines and eight generators are part of the load. Operating theatre and dressing materials, disinfectants and small medical devices, such as blood pressure monitors, are also being delivered to Ukraine. The shipment also includes more than 30 boxes of warm winter clothing.

Bocholt clubs and companies support the campaign

The collection of the numerous medical supplies was only possible thanks to the "Helfende Hände" association with Leo Engenhorst from Bocholt. He was actively supported by the "Freiwilligenagentur Bocholt - Engagierte Stadt". The current transport is organised by the Cologne-based Blau-Gelbes Kreuz e.V. association.

Since the outbreak of war in Ukraine, this organisation has been implementing a wide range of measures to provide aid to the Ukrainians and their country. Deputy Mayor Gudrun Koppers thanked the helpers and all donors. She also thanked the Blue-Yellow Cross, which is organising the first transport from Bocholt to Ukraine.

Mayor Kerkhoff received a reaction to the announced transport from the city of Verkhniodniprovsk this week: "We are very touched by this quick and timely help at the right time," said the city of Verkhniodniprovsk. "We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your understanding, your kindness, your empathy, your sincerity and your great support," it continues.
