Lecture and discussion on International Women's Day on 8 March
Event at the Stadtsparkasse // Topic: Women in politics?
On Friday, 8 March, there will be an event at the Stadtsparkasse in Bocholt to mark International Women's Day. After a get-together, there will be a lecture by Prof Dr Silke Ruth Laskowski on the subject of the Parity Act. A joint discussion round is planned afterwards.
The topic of the evening is: "Women in politics? And if so, how many? Is a parity law long overdue? " The event starts at 5 pm. Prof Dr Laskowski will be joined in the discussion by:
- Anne König, Member of the Bundestag
- Nina Andrieshen, Member of the State Parliament
- Mechthild Schulze Hessing, Mayor of the City of Borken
- Monika Ludwig, Councillor of the City of Bocholt
- Nicky Eppich, Councillor of the City of Arnhem (NL)
A study by the "Atlas on Gender Equality in North Rhine-Westphalia" from 2023 found that 72.4 per cent of all seats in the NRW state parliament are held by men. The fact that 65 years after the birth of the Equal Rights Act, there are still significantly more men than women shaping political decisions is a constant source of controversy.
The organisers are looking forward to a lively discussion on the topic. Bocholt's Equal Opportunities Officer Astrid Schupp will accept registrations for the afternoon at gleichstellung(at)bocholt(dot)de.
Registration is requested
The event is organised by the Bocholt Political Women's Network together with EUROPE DIRECT Bocholt and the Equal Opportunities Officers of the City of Bocholt (Astrid Schupp) and the City of Borken (Carina Sienert).
The International Women's Day project is made possible by the Interreg programme Germany-Nederland and its programme partners and is co-financed by the European Union (EU).
