"Münsterland is climate country": Bocholt reaffirms regional cooperation
This week, the city of Bocholt and 65 other municipalities committed to increased local and regional climate protection measures as part of the Münsterland Climate Summit in the city of Münster.
The event marked a significant collaboration between various administrative levels and organisations, including Münsterland e.V., the four Münsterland districts, the city of Münster and the state company NRW.Energy4Climate, supported by the Münster district government.
On behalf of the city of Bocholt, city planning officer Daniel Zöhler signed the communiqué "Münsterland ist Klimaland - Wir sind dabei!". With this act, the signatories reaffirm their intention to drive forward the climate-neutral transformation through innovative local projects and inter-municipal exchange.
The declaration includes goals such as the expansion of renewable energies with citizen participation, the active shaping of the heating transition and more sustainable rural mobility.
"The city of Bocholt has already been a climate municipality for many years and is actively promoting environmental protection and the mobility transition", says city planning officer Daniel Zöhler. The inter-municipal initiative is therefore "extremely welcome", says Zöhler.
The initiative "Münsterland ist Klimaland", coordinated by Münsterland e.V. since 2016, acts as a platform and support network for the participating municipalities. The aim is to sensitise citizens to climate protection through campaigns, communication material and events and to encourage them to take active action. Since the start of the campaign in 2021, 65 municipalities have officially joined the initiative.
