Volksbank Bocholt donates 5000 euros to JUNGE UNI

New tools and workbenches for the "Maker Space"

The JUNGE UNI in Bocholt is delighted to have received a donation of 5,000 euros from Volksbank Bocholt eG. The support will enable the educational institution to further expand its programmes to get young people interested in maths, IT, science and technology (STEM).

One focus of the investments is on equipping the new Maker Space, the "workshop" of the JUNGE UNI in the LernWerk. "We have invested in lots of new tools, including cordless screwdrivers, cordless hot glue guns, laptops and magnifying glasses", explains Jennifer Engels, Head of JUNGE UNI. "All things that make our course work easier and are used across all courses." New robust workbenches have also been procured with the help of the funding, which the course participants will be able to work on in future.

The practical programmes offered by JUNGE UNI are not only intended to impart knowledge to children and young people, but also to promote creativity and manual skills. "The children do a lot of soldering here, we implement STEM projects directly. This is a fun way for young people to learn how to put the things they see on the screen directly into practice", adds Engels. New in the coming semester is a course on woodworking, for which materials have also been procured.

First step into a career

Martin Wilms, board member of Volksbank Bocholt, emphasises the importance of the donation: "We are very happy that the JUNGE UNI exists in Bocholt and are happy to support it. We know that not everything can always be financed from the public purse, which is why we are making a targeted effort here. You also need the right material to realise creative ideas."

Björn Volmering, Head of Cultural Affairs for the City of Bocholt, also emphasises the importance of the support: "We would like to thank Volksbank Bocholt for supporting us so actively. The purchases help to ensure that more young people can take advantage of the programmes offered by JUNGE UNI."

Bernd Kleine-Rüschkamp from the Volksbank in Bocholt sees the funding as an investment in the future: "In our view, JUNGE UNI can be a first step towards a career in the company. This is another reason why we have been happy to support the organisation right from the start: it is an investment in the skilled workers that we will need in Bocholt in the future."
