VHS Practical Workshops: Building an insect hotel
In a VHS practical workshop, children from the age of 10, young people and adults can build an insect hotel under expert guidance. The venue is the Makerspace Bocholt, Westend 31, on Saturday, 11 March, from 3 to 6 p.m. Information and registration at the VHS Bocholt office, Stenerner Weg 14a, the Rhede and Isselburg branches or online at vhs-bocholt.de.
The workshop led by Joris Bijkerk is intended for adult and youth participants, and children accompanied by their parents from the age of 10 can also join in. There will be sawing, drilling and hammering. The result is a decorative and at the same time useful insect hotel for your own garden, for the wall of your house on the terrace or on the balcony.
No fear of wild bees
Filled with different materials, it becomes a home and breeding ground for all kinds of insects. It is particularly popular with small wild bees, which - unlike our honey bees - do not live in colonies but lead a single existence. Don't be afraid! Wild bees are not "wild" at all, but extremely peaceful and harmless and also very important as flower pollinators. Like many birds, they have a hard time finding a home for their offspring these days. An insect hotel therefore makes an important contribution to nature. Bring a pair of rose shears, everything else will be provided.
