02 February 2023 at 19:00 // Media Centre (Alter Bahnhof) // Admission free // Registration open now
On 2 February 2023, Syria's beauty will be shown in a two-hour, live-moderated reportage at the Media Centre (Alter Bahnhof) at 7:00 pm. The speaker's photos impressively document everyday life, show how people in Syria laugh and shop, work, pray, discuss and celebrate.
Over a period of 20 years, photojournalist, author and Islamic scholar Lutz Jäkel travelled to Syria again and again. The colourful and diverse life of the people, the magnificent architecture, residential buildings and streets in Damascus, dense forests - much has been irretrievably destroyed since the outbreak of the war. Almost half of the Syrian population has fled, hundreds of thousands have lost their lives. Relatively little is known about Syria, which is so rich in human and cultural terms.
In Jäkel's reportage, Syrians, German-Syrians and Germans talk about their Syria in videos full of warmth, letting the viewer share their experiences, which are marked by happiness and melancholy, joy and sadness. The result is a picture that is both personal and broad - and a bridge full of hope and empathy.
The Integration Office of the City of Bocholt and the Adult Education Centre invite you to become part of the celebrated and nationally successful live reportage with more than 20,000 viewers so far. The event is free of charge. Registration is requested at www.vhs-bocholt.de or during opening hours at the Weiterbildungszentrum, Stenerner Weg 14a. in Bocholt. Remaining places will be allocated on site in the evening.
